Exmouth is simply a fishing paradise. With the continental shelf only a short distance offshore, the Ningaloo area offers many opportunities for game, reef and beach fishing. Although there are a few sanctuary zones where fishing is strictly prohibited, the diverse area of the Ningaloo offers many other areas with excellent fishing.

Both beach fishing and fishing in the Exmouth Gulf can produce a surprising variety of species with some of the most sought species being the North West Snapper, Blue Bone, Coral Trout and Red Emperor. Professional charter boats depart from Exmouth daily and have a range of tours on offer to suite every need including private charters.

The Ningaloo area is also recognised as the premier game-fishing destination in Western Australia. Exmouth is one of only a few places in the world where such sought after and acclaimed species such as the Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Mahi Mahi, Spanish Mackerel and Sailfish can caught on a regular basis. This makes Exmouth the ideal fishing destination for even the most opportunistic of fishermen.

Every March Exmouth is host to the Gamex Tournament which has produced some record braking catches in the past. Exmouth is equipped with no less then three boat launching areas in close proximity of the Exmouth township, the closest and biggest of the three being Exmouth Boat Harbour which is located a mere 2 km south of town centre. The Exmouth boat harbour offers concrete boat ramps within the sheltered concrete walls of the marina.
